Víctor Sandoval, regional president of PymeMad Biobío-Ñuble, participated in the signing of the agreement between the Regional Government of Biobío and the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF), which will allow the recovery of 4,000 hectares affected by forest fires in the region.
The program "Productive Recovery of Forests Affected by Fires," funded with resources from the National Fund for Regional Development (FNDR), contemplates an investment of $9.8 billion that will be administered by CONAF over a period of 36 months. The initiative will benefit 450 families of small and medium-sized rural landowners and projects the generation of nearly 5,000 direct jobs during its execution.
The ceremony was attended by the regional governor of Biobío, Sergio Giacaman; the executive director of CONAF, Aída Baldini; and the regional director of CONAF, Álvaro González, who detailed that the interventions will be carried out on small-scale properties, making the program a highly demanding activity in direct labor for the region.
Sandoval highlighted state support at a complex time for small and medium-sized enterprises in the sector: "This project demonstrates a willingness to move forward and confirms that the forestry sector contributes significantly to rural life. The creation of intensive labor is key to strengthening rural employment today," said the union leader.
The agreement was valued across the board by the productive unions of the area, which see in the initiative a concrete tool for promoting smaller-scale forest owners.
Sandoval's participation in this instance reaffirms PymeMad's commitment to the productive recovery of the forestry-wood sector and the strengthening of rural employment in the Biobío region.
