Lorena Vargas, national vice president of PymeMad, and representatives of the Chilean Wood Corporation (CORMA) held a working meeting with the Regional Minister of Economy of the Ñuble Region, Manuel Cofré Suárez, within the framework of the Foco Madera program.

The meeting provided regional continuity to the working table held days earlier in Santiago with the Minister of Economy, where PymeMad, along with other guilds of the Futuro Madera network, addressed the main challenges of the country's forestry-wood sector.

During the session, the strategic role of the forestry-wood sector in the economic dynamism of Ñuble and in the generation of local employment was delved into, in a region whose economy depends significantly on forestry and agricultural activity. The conversation focused on the joint development of a work plan with proposals aimed at wood construction, the promotion of forest plantations, and incentives for the productive sector.

Likewise, the loss of competitiveness and efficiency faced by the industry was addressed, aggravated by the sustained increase in transportation and logistics costs, factors that have contributed to the progressive closure of sawmills in the area.

"What we want to contribute are policies that favor this sector and that allow stopping the closure of sawmills in Ñuble," said Vargas, who highlighted that the meeting provides regional continuity to the dialogue initiated with the Ministry of Economy at the national level.

Vargas's participation in this instance reaffirms PymeMad's commitment to the territorial representation of small and medium-sized wood companies, bringing the concerns and proposals of the sector to regional authorities in each productive area of the country.
