Hernán Muñoz Bernal, national president of PymeMad, and Víctor Sandoval, regional president of Biobío-Ñuble, were part of the forestry sector delegation that met with Minister Jaime Campos during his first visit to the region.

The meeting, which brought together forestry sector associations grouped under the Red Futuro Madera network, was also attended by Gabriel Valenzuela, executive director of the Forestry Institute (INFOR). The meeting was accompanied by the delivery of a technical document with proposals for the future Forestry Promotion Law.

During the meeting, key topics were addressed, such as forestry promotion and productive reactivation, fire prevention, the promotion of wood construction, biomass, and sustainable management of native forests. PymeMad emphasized that any promotion policy must prioritize small and medium-sized wood companies, which were the most affected by the disasters of 2017 and 2023, which reduced available wood by nearly five million cubic meters annually and triggered the closure of more than 130 sawmills in the southern macrozone. The association raised the need to reduce operational costs, add value to production, and prioritize wood species oriented toward construction, a key sector for carbon retention and territorial employment.

Among the commitments obtained, the minister announced progress on a new Forestry Promotion Law within 60 days and indicated the submission of amendments to the Fire Law project, focusing on prevention and penalties.

PymeMad's participation in this instance reaffirms the association's commitment to the reactivation of the wood sector and the defense of rural employment in the central-southern regions of the country.
