Sawmills and transporters from Constitución and Empedrado joined a public-private collection that delivered concrete aid to the victims in the localities of Punta de Parra and Lirquén, where flames destroyed nearly 80% of the homes.
The tragedy that struck the Biobío region starting January 17th mobilized the solidarity of the Maule timber sector. More than 20 small and medium-sized timber entrepreneurs from the communes of Constitución and Empedrado, several of them associated with PymeMad Maule, united in a solidarity drive to support the reconstruction of Punta de Parra and Lirquén, where flames destroyed nearly 80% of the homes.
The deployment involved around 19 trucks with construction timber, one truck with fruits and vegetables, machinery for loading and unloading, and a food truck to support the teams on the ground. The donation included flooring, ceiling materials, cladding, boards, posts, and dimensioned lumber, key materials for families to begin their recovery.
This effort was complemented by the contribution of the municipalities of Constitución and Empedrado, with 5,550 liters of fuel for transportation and logistical operations. The delivery was coordinated directly with community centers and neighborhood associations in the affected area. In total, this solidarity aid reached an estimated value of $150 million.
From PymeMad, we highlight and congratulate this tremendous solidarity work. We especially thank Roberto Zúñiga and Ricardo Aguilar for their tireless coordination, and all those collaborators who worked behind the scenes, contributing their time, resources, and selfless effort together with the municipalities of Constitución and Empedrado to make this support possible.
We also thank our associates in the Maule region, who with actions like this uphold the name of PymeMad and reinforce what unites us as a guild from Maule to Los Ríos: the willingness to contribute when it is most needed.
