Hernán Muñoz Bernal, regional director of PymeMad Maule and general manager of Aserraderos Catalina, participated as a speaker in the seminar "From Smart Forest to Sustainable Business: Smart Forestry for small and medium-sized owners and companies in the timber industry," held at the Dr. Fernando Drake Aranda Auditorium of the Faculty of Forest Sciences at the University of Concepción.
The meeting, organized by the University of Concepción, the Embassy of Finland, and Business Finland, with the collaboration of CORMA and CENAMAD, featured the presence of Ambassador Johanna Kotkajärvi throughout the event, alongside prominent international experts in sustainable forestry.
Muñoz Bernal was part of the panel on "Certification and Digital Traceability," where he highlighted that the Chilean forestry industry aligns with the requirements implemented by the European Union. "It's rewarding to realize that we are in line with what is being done in Europe, so we have nothing to envy in that regard," stated the industry leader after his presentation.
The director of PymeMad Maule emphasized the importance of learning from the Finnish experience to strengthen good practices in the national sector. "We are at the forefront of certification and traceability," he affirmed, although he acknowledged that challenges persist: "It is increasingly difficult to secure supply and increasingly costly to trace from the origin."
Muñoz Bernal's participation in this event reaffirms PymeMad's commitment to technical strengthening in matters of forest certification, demonstrating that Chilean timber SMEs meet international standards of traceability and sustainability.
